Finance Minister briefed on disinvestment process

The Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has said that the government is committed to the process of disinvestment of heavy loss making Public Sector Entities (PSEs) which shall be carried out transparently and in an efficient manner in the national interest. He made these observations during a briefing on the progress made so far by the Privatization Commission at the Finance Ministry this morning.

The Finance Minister said that the disinvestment of PSEs shall be carried out preferably through strategic partnership and directed the Privatization Commission to develop a strategy to balance the competing objectives of maximizing benefits to the country while ensuring the protection of rights of employees of PSEs.

The Finance Minister said that at present national and international capital markets are buoyant and the country must benefit from the present confidence of the investors in present government.

During the meeting the Privatization Commission briefed the Finance Minister about the decisions taken by the Privatization Commission Board recently.

The Chairman Privatization Commission Mr. Muhammad Zubair assured the Finance Minister that all legal and codal formalities would be adhered to and transparency would be its hallmark.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Privatization Commission and senior officials of the Ministries of Finance and Privatization.
