LNG import would commence in March 2015

A high level meeting held here on Tuesday discussed important matters regarding import of LNG.

The Federal Minister, who chaired the meeting, was informed that the LNG import would commence in March 2015. It would preferably be made available to efficient power plants providing a boost to overall power generation in the country and helping reduce power prices.

Finance Minister on this occasion said that LNG imports next March should be ensured and all related arrangements should be finalised. The Ministries of P&NR and Water & Power, in consultation with the Finance Ministry, should devise a mechanism for import, pricing and distribution of LNG, Ishaq Dar said.

Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastgir on the occasion apprised the meeting about the concerns of the textile industry regarding shortage of energy. The meeting agreed that a proper solution of this problem should be ascertained on priority basis.

Federal Minister for Water & Power, Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Federal Minister for P&NR, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastgir, Secretary Finnace, Dr. Waqar Masood, Secretary Water & Power, Yunus Dhaga, Secretary P&NR Abid Saeed, Advisor Finance Division, Rana Asad Amin and other senior officials attended the meeting.
