NBP to open Islamic bank branches by 2015-end

KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) will enhance its network of Islamic Banking (IB) Division with 175 branches at different locations across the country in next one and a half year.
President of NBP Iqbal Ashraf inaugurating Islamic Banking Branch ‘Aitemaad’ Islamic Banking Branch in Khayaban-e-Sehar Commercial AvenuePhase-VII, DHA Karachi on Monday said NBP would be opening new Islamic Branches along with regular branches, which would also be converted from commercial banking to Islamic Banking branches. NBP intends to open 175 Islamic branches out of which 19 have already been opened and have started operations in different cities of Pakistan.
Within the next few years NBP-Aitemaad would become a major player in the Islamic Banking industry with a branch network spreading across Pakistan with concentration in the rural areas where Islamic Banking options are rarely available
